My name is George Maclennan chair of the TruckNess 2019 Committee. The TruckNess Team and a whole army of volunteers are currently working on the biggest event ever staged by TruckNess in the Highlands. The event is about TruckNess 2019 (Truck Show), an event that I am sure you are now familiar with, staged to celebrate the fantastic contribution made by the men and women working in the Haulage Industry in Inverness and the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and an opportunity to raise funds for MFR Cash for Kids, it is about TruckNess 2019 which I am writing to you today. TruckNess Update For the better part of 2018 The TruckNess Team strived tirelessly to put on an event that would celebrate the work of all those who are involved in the haulage industry in the highlands and islands, and a show that would have more of a family feel to it and attract entries from all over Scotland. After considering all the great feedback we feel that TruckNess 2018 was a great success, and thanks to the generosity of the public, and all our contributors raised a significant amount of cash for our charity, MFR Cash for Kids. I am delighted to be able to inform you that with the support of Clune Farm, this year’s event will be staged at Dores, On the Banks of Loch Ness on Saturday 15th June 2019, 10am to 5pm. As you can imagine, there is a great deal that we must take into consideration as we plan for the event. TruckNess operates on a “break even basis”, with lots of volunteer’s, and as I am sure you will appreciate with an event of this size, there are always compulsory set up costs incurred, hence the necessity for levies for exhibitor’s, trade stands, admissions etc. This year’s event will again be an opportunity to make some money for charity, and of course as usual for the truckers to show their trucks at their very best and compete for trophies and celebrate the year past in each other’s company. So, to cut a long story short, for the remainder of this letter, I am simply going to focus on what the new TruckNess 2019 event is going to be; and I hope by the end of it that you will be able to decide if you or your company wish to be part of it. Site plan Our site will be divided into four main zones; which will be, Area 1, The Truck Exhibition and Stage, Area 2, Fairground and Traders, Area 3, Disabled Parking, Area 4, Main Car Park. Spectator Admission To make this year’s TruckNess event as affordable (sustainable and attractive) as possible for our visitors; it has been decided that admission charges will be as follows: The admission prices for TruckNess 2019 on Saturday 1st June will be: Adult (over 16) £5.00, 6 - 15 and over 65’s £3.00, 5 and under Free. A charge of £2 will be made for parking. Visitors will of course be able to leave the area using the pass out system we will have in operation. TruckNess Entry Fees for Trucks Every Trucker will be asked to pay £20.00 per vehicle to display at TruckNess 2019. For their £20 they will receive entry to competition, and 1 passenger pass to the show field (worth £5), and a judging entry form. Additional wristbands can be purchased at the pay point. Truck Arena - Timings It is planned that the Truck Exhibition Area, which is the heart of our event, will be used to accommodate the trucks participating in TruckNess 2019, and will be open from 10am on Saturday morning, (no vehicle movement after 9am), unless with the specific permission of event staff, until 5pm on Saturday evening. The Fairground - Timings The Fairground will be open from 10am to 5pm Saturday 15th June 2019. Traders Market - Timings The Traders Market will be open for business between 10am and 5pm Saturday 15th June 2019. Car Parking – Timings All visitors ‘vehicles must be parked in the Main Car Park (Area 4), a fee of £2.00 will be payable on entry), your vehicle will be accommodated from Saturday 10am to Sunday 1200 noon. Attractions Saturday15tht June 2019, 10am – 5pm, TruckNess 2019 Show Day, featuring Highland Trucker of the Year Presentation, and prize giving. Also: Pipe Band, Funfair, Traders Market, Bouncy Castles, Bubble Football, Nerf Wars, Hot and Cold Food, Bar, and a live entertainment program on stage through the afternoon, hosted by Kais Beats Entertainment. Further Attractions We are currently in discussions with several local organisations who are keen to get involved with TruckNess 2019; and as a result, we are very confident of being able to add additional attractions. Attendances The question that every Exhibitor and Trader asks whenever we invite them to join us is “How many spectators do you think are going to attend this event”; we have used our judgement and historical data to estimate the number of spectators that might attend over the course of the day; and we are applying for a public entertainment licence for 3000 spectators. In recent years our attendances have ranged from approximately 1500 - 3500 for Show Day. We appreciate that like all other outdoor events staged in the Scottish Highlands every summer that attendances at our event can be reduced or increased depending on the weather or circumstances beyond our control. Marketing and Promotion Working in partnership with a variety of organisations including MFR Cash for Kids, (TruckNess 2019’s chosen charity), Scottish Provincial Press, Moray Firth Radio, Visit Scotland, Inverness Loch Ness, IT Taxi’s, Tourism BID, Inverness BID, Inverness Hotel Association; Inverness B&B Association to name but a few; we are fully committed to the marketing and promotion of TruckNess 2019 in the weeks and months ahead.
